Will Smith goes from fear to joy as Aladdin's new genie
Will Smith was initially worried about playing the genie in Disney’s live action version of “Aladdin” after the celebrated performance by the late Robin Williams more than 25 years ago, but says it eventually became a joy.
“What Robin Williams did with this character - he just didn’t leave a lot of room to add to the genie. So I started off fearful but then when I got with the music, it just started waking up that fun, childlike, silly part of me,” Smith said.
“This was the most joyful experience of my career,” the actor, 50, said ahead of the film’s release worldwide this week.
“Aladdin,” directed by Guy Ritchie, marks Smith’s first time doing a Walt Disney Co film. The remake features many of the elements of the 1992 animated original, for which Williams won a Golden Globe for his voice work.

More than 19 million U.S. viewers watched the series finale of television’s “Game of Thrones” - a record audience for HBO, the cable channel said on Monday.
HBO, a unit of AT&T’s Warner Media, said Sunday’s 19.3 million live television audience and viewers on its HBO GO and HBO NOW apps exceeded the previous high for the fantasy - 18.4 million, for the penultimate episode a week ago.
The finale was also the most-watched single telecast ever on HBO, surpassing the previous record set by crime drama “The Sopranos” in 2002, HBO said.
“Game of Thrones” is available in over 150 countries worldwide, but HBO said viewing data is not easily retrieved in many of those markets, making a global figure impossible to calculate.

She also added that the two will work together "one day inshAllah" to which Saeed replied: "We shall indeed collaborate one day!"
